I’m a licensed therapist, mom, wife to a small-business owner, professional network gatherer, walk/talker, garden-lover, and your guide on your therapy journey.
Following my graduate work at Virginia Commonwealth University, I’ve had a myriad of experiences working with individuals and families ranging from young children and teens to older adults in both community mental health and private practice settings. In all of these experiences, I learned the importance of collaborative care and the importance of a holistic approach.
Over the years I started to realize my passion for working with women who are struggling to find their own voice and power, specifically during major life transitions. I love supporting women during the perinatal period (pregnancy through baby’s first years) as well as those who have felt constrained by anxiety and fear.
In addition to 15 years of post-graduate experience, I have specialized training in perinatal mental health and Exposure-Response Prevention to address anxiety and symptoms of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. I consider myself a life-long learner and regularly participate in peer consultation, conferences, and workshops to continue to grow as a therapist and stay connected to my values.
My approach to therapy
My approach to therapy is highly collaborative, process-based, and non-judgemental. It is rooted in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which supports clients in being present, even when it’s uncomfortable, and doing what matters.
We typically work on building mindfulness skills and ways to “unhook” from unhelpful thoughts while also exploring values and identifying choices/actions that align with these values. In some of the initial sessions, we will work on building mindfulness to tailor our work to your specific needs and treatment goals, I also may incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP).
I value the diversity and unique experience of each client and would love the opportunity to see if we could be a good fit! The therapeutic relationship is one unlike any other; therefore I strive to create a safe space through modeling therapeutic boundaries, building trust, and a stance of openness and curiosity to understand your experience.
I live in Raleigh, NC with my husband, our 2 kiddos, and our dog/office assistant, Lucy.
Outside of sessions you can find me tending to my cut flower garden, figuring out some way to engage in a creative project, volunteering, being active, travelling, and spending time with family and friends.
